An extension of Cambridge's rich culture is the Cambridge Public Library. There, residents with a library card can take advantage of a whole host of state-of-the-art facilities and fun programs. So whether you are an experienced creative artist or are just wanting to learn more, here are the amazing free offerings to take advantage of near our Cambridge apartments.
Located at the Main Library is The Hive. It's an awesomely outfitted creative art space, and its mission is to provide hands-on learning and creative opportunities for the Cambridge community. You'll find amazing tech and equipment like a fabrication lab, including sewing machines, vinyl cutters, and 3D printers. There's also an extended reality lab, a multimedia recording studio, and a podcasting studio.
To get started creating at The Hive, patrons must complete a safety and instruction course. There, you will learn how to use the equipment and receive your badge for using the space. Register via the library calendar for classes offered about once a week.
This class helps you take advantage of the state-of-the-art equipment at The Hive. Here you will learn how to use the Roland Camm-1 GS-24 vinyl cutter and get badged. After that, you will be able to make your own vinyl stickers, signs, or images for transfer to t-shirts and things like canvas bags. Register for Vinyl Cutting 101 and other classes at The Hive via its calendar of events.
One of the many great book groups offered by the Cambridge Public Library is the Contemporary Book Group. Get reading and chat with peers over fiction, memoirs, and popular nonfiction books. Best of all, you can pick up a copy of the monthly titles at the library. In addition, you can get an ebook or audiobook via Overdrive or the Libby app.
